Human / Non-Human
Veronika Drahotová works with a wide range of means of expression. In essence, however, she is a painter. As part of her artistic development, she has gone through many phases, from realistic beginnings to her contemporary inclination toward abstraction. She experiments with the medium of painting, perceiving and processing its possibilities and limitations.
In traditional paintings, she was always most bothered by their “conserved” format, the rectangle or square. Therefore, she has recently worked on different systems, which distort this definition of the painting. The various formats are interconnected, pervade each other and allow multiple ways for installations, acting like building blocks or architecture. The artist has named this technique “Architectonic”. It is an image that is composed of two or more canvases rendered in such a way that we can get new variants by turning the canvases and rearranging their positions.
The topics Veronika Drahotová has been long interested in are universal, yet very intimate. In recent years, she has been gradually preoccupied with the themes of consciousness and interested in the concepts of choice, time, memory, space and freedom. Some of the themes have always anticipated the forthcoming ideas, others are recurring. The theme of freedom thus continues in the series of previous concepts and is their natural continuation; in the Human / Non-Human exhibition, it deals with the issues of the human and the non-human. The boundaries of man as an individual and a species are examined through confrontation with social animal species, artificial intelligence or natural energies. The artist asks about the origin of the human sense of superiority and critically reflects the role of man in the world.
Člověk / Nečlověk
Veronika Drahotová pracuje se širokou škálou uměleckých prostředků. Ve své podstatě je ale malířka. V rámci svého uměleckého vývoje prošla mnoha fázemi od realističtějších začátků po současnou inklinaci k abstrakci. Experimentuje s médiem malby, vnímá a zpracovává její možnosti i její omezení.
Na tradičních malbách Veronice Drahotové vždy nejvíce vadil jejich “zakonzervovaný “ formát, obdélník nebo čtverec. V posledních několika letech proto pracuje na různých systémech, které toto vymezení obrazu narušují. Jednotlivé formáty se propojují, prostupují a umožňují více způsobů instalace, chovají se jako stavebnice nebo architektura. Tuto techniku proto pojmenovala “architectonic”. Jedná se o obraz, který je sestaven ze dvou či více pláten. Ta jsou pojednána tak, že otáčením jednotlivých pláten a přeskupováním pozic dostáváme nové varianty.
Náměty, které Veroniku Drahotovou dlouhodobě zajímají, jsou obecné, zároveň velmi intimní. V průběhu posledních let se postupně zaobírala tématy vědomí, zajímaly jí koncepty volby, času, paměti, prostoru nebo svobody. Jednotlivá témata vždy anticipovala náměty nadcházející, k jiným se zpětně vrací. Motiv svobody tak navazuje na řetězec předchozích konceptů a je jejich přirozeným pokračováním, ve výstavě Human / Non-Human směrem k otázkám lidského a nelidského. Hranice člověka jako jednotlivce i druhu zkoumá konfrontací se společenskými živočišnými druhy, umělou inteligencí nebo přírodními energiemi. Táže se po zdrojích pocitu lidské nadřazenosti a kriticky reflektuje pozici člověka ve světě.
